Launch Day
🤗 Hello
April 15th, 2020, has been marked in our agendas in big fat letters for months. Guess why? It's the day our boat goes from its dry dock back into its natural habitat. We flew to Greece in early April to get the boat back in shape. Our days went by quickly: inspecting and refitting the boat, installing the new gear (which included a lot of cursing), and getting settled into our new floating cocoon. In the evenings, we enjoyed a glass of Retsina with some Greek salad and discussed the first destinations we would like to visit.
After two weeks of hard work, the boat was finally ready for launch. We were quite nervous. Are there any leaks? Early morning, it was time to leave the boat and let the crane lift Amae and put her gently back into the Mediterranean.
⏰ 🦠
7 o'clock, the alarm rings... the ground under our feet isn't moving, and we didn't hit our heads on the low ceiling... Something is off – not boat-like.
Yes, you probably guessed it. Amae is still on the dry, and we are still in Switzerland, confined to our apartment. We quit our jobs and our lease by the end of March to start our long-planned voyage at sea. But as all of you know, COVID-19 is crossing our plans… As the virus spread around Asia and came closer to Europe, we slowly started to realize that our travel plans are going to be affected too. And now the whole world has turned upside down. Distance is social; proximity is suspicious.
🙏🏻
Our thoughts are with all people who are much more affected by the consequences of the virus than we are. At the same time, we're thankful to have such understanding employers and landlords. While we wait at home, we keep dreaming about Amae's keel finally touching the water – hopefully rather sooner than later.
Take care,
Philipp & Kristel
